From 2001 to 2003, I was in the Key Laboratory of Terrestrial Ecological Processes of CAS for my master degree, and participated in “the Hundreds of Talents Program of CAS”, which is “characterizing the diagnostic index in soil ecosystem process”. My specific research, there, is “Soil indicative organic components, Microbial residue such as amino sugars in soils” using GC for investigating Microbial contribution e.g. bacteria & fungi to soil and elucidating the mechanism of soil process. My Master Thesis is “Effect of substrate addition on microbial transformation process of amino sugars in soils”.
After 2003 till now, I stay in Soil Department of University of Wisconsin-Madison, as a Ph.D candidate. My current interest is focused on the role of microbes in soil carbon sequestration, where I will use different advanced techniques to differentiate the contribution to soil carbon pool from fungi and bacteria, especially from dead microbes and living microbes. |

Ph.D., 2007, University of Wisconsin-Madison
I am presently studying the impacts of invasive plants on below ground processes. In my research, I examine the effects of rising atmospheric CO2 on invasive plants and ecosystem functioning. My research goals are to examine how elevated CO2 affects the growth and competition of invasive and native wetland plants, the structure, function, and activity of soil microbial communities, and the cycling of nutrients.
